11/11/22

During the offseason, Andre Drummond signed a new two-year, $6.56 million contract with the Chicago Bulls.Although the former NBA All-Star has seen his role around the league decrease in recent years, he still provides a great deal of value in multiple facets of the game.  At this moment, the Athledex platform projects Drummond’s Real-Time Contract Value to be $14.58 million, while he’s making $3.2 million this season. Why is this a good deal for Chicago? Drummond is a low-risk player on a very team friendly deal. He provides legitimate depth for the Bulls and is a monster on the glass.

Double-Double Machine

In his career, Drummond has an outstanding 455 career double-doubles. Not only can he dominate the glass and score points, but he can also do so in limited action. So far this season, he’s averaging 9.0 points and 10.2 rebounds in just 16.8 minutes per contest. Furthermore, Drummond already has multiple double-doubles with only two weeks into the season. Although he had somewhat of a down year last season, we’re projecting him to have a bounce back 2022-23 campaign. As he continues to integrate himself into the roster, he should only get better.

High Percentage Looks

The modern NBA is heavily weighted towards 3-point shooting, but teams still need efficient scorers on low volume to help fill the gap. Drumming is a career 54% shooter from the floor and takes good looks near the bucket. In fact, nearly 63% of his shots since 2020 have come within three feet of the rim, and 99.8% are from inside the arc. This is key for the Bulls as Drummond is a good scorer in the paint to balance the offensive shot distribution.

Second Chance Points

Second chance points are huge and often dictate the outcome of close games. Drummond had four games with 20 or more rebounds last season, many of which were offensive boards. So far this season in Chicago, Drummond is averaging 7.8 offensive rebounds per 36 minutes. Even in limited action off the bench, he’s generated quite a few second chances for the Bulls on offense early in the season. He’s also able to produce easy points with put back opportunities.

2022-23 Salary: $3.2 million | Real-Time Contract Value: $14.8 million
